The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) is an initiative by the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority and is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President Prime Minister of UAE and The Ruler of Dubai and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, in cooperation with World Climate Ltd and WETEX. The World Green Economy Summit remains the premier international platform for strategic partnerships and innovative solutions seeking to accelerate the transition in to the green economy. The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) is the first green summit in the Middle East and North Africa region enabling national green economy development, promoting regional and global growth in green trade, investments, and partnerships, and the establishing a global green economy marketplace for technologies, products and services.
Green Touches was present at the opening ceremony of the World Green Economy Summit which was held in Dubai on October 5th – 6th 2016.
Prior to the arrival of HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, HE Thani Al Zeyoudi the Minister of Climate Change, UAE delivered the first speech of the day. Also at the opening ceremony were Adnan Z. Amin, Director General, IRENA, Donald Thomas, Astronaut, NASA, Richard King, Advisor for Solar Decathlon Middle East, Yvo de Boer, Former Executive Secretary General, UNFCCC, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO DEWA, Helen Clark, Administrator, UNDP and Akon, Co-Founder, Solektra Solar.
HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the World Green Economy Organisation, WGEO, an organization that seeks to promote the green economy concept at home and abroad.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO DEWA talked about the efforts DEWA are making to promote sustainable living in Dubai. Helen Clark, Administrator UNDP talks about Dubai’s efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and for the ratification of the Paris Agreement.
Everybody was excited to see the music artist Akon as he talked about the establishment of Akon Lighting Africa. It is wonderful to see a well know figure using his notoriety for philanthropic causes.
